Comment

See Lynch and Schwartz, 1971, J. Herpetol., 5: 103–114, for a discussion of nomenclature and an account. Heyer and Hardy, 1991, Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 104: 436–447, reexamined Brazilian and Colombian species previously allocated to this species and reidentified them as Eleutherodactylus zimmermanae. Lynch, 1980, Am. Mus. Novit., 2696: 8, discussed previous misidentifications. See brief account by Lynch and Duellman, 1980, Misc. Publ. Mus. Nat. Hist. Univ. Kansas, 69: 39. Rodríguez and Duellman, 1994, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 22: 57, provided a brief account for the Iquitos region of northeastern Peru as Eleutherodactylus lacrimosus. In the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) martinicensis series, Eleutherodactylus unistrigatus group of Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 226. In the Pristimantis lacrimosus species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 123, and of Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 126. See Duellman and Lehr, 2009, Terrest.-breeding Frogs in Peru: 185-186, for brief account. Brito-M., Batallas-R., and Yánez-Muñoz, 2017, Neotropical Biodiversity, 3: 125–156. provided a record from Morona Santiago, Ecuador and brief natural history notes.
