Type locality: "'Nueva York' hill, Río Blanco Basin (04° 54′ 28.2″ S, 79° 22′ 46.9″ W) at 3100 m . . . , Distrito de Carmen de la Frontera, Provincia de Huancabamba, Departamento de Piura, Peru".

Northern Departamento de Piura and adjacent Departamento de Cajamarca in paramo and humid montane forest, Peru, 1900–3100 m elevation.

In the Pristimantis unistrigatus group according to the original publication. In the Pristimantis (Pristimantis) unistrigatus species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 128. Not assignable to species group according to Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 127.
