Ischnocnema penaxavantinho Giaretta, Toffoli, and Oliveira, 2007, Zootaxa, 1666: 44. Holotype: ZUEC 13639, by original designation. Type locality: "Estação Ecológica do Panga (around 19°11′ S; 48°24′ W) municipality of Uberlândia, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil".

In a cluster of species traditionally considered to be related to Ischnocnema juipoca according to the original publication. In the Ischnocnema verrucosa species series of Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 122. Bastos, Signorelli, Nomura, and Morais, 2015, Herpetol. Bull., 132: 22–24, provided the range extension to Goias, as well as notes on its vocalizations.
