Peters: 43, who noted that the type is not lost as reported by Perret, 1962, Rev. Zool. Bot. Afr., 65: 235-246. Type locality: "Cameruns" = Cameroon. Type locality discussed and corrected to "Douala", Cameroon, by Frétey, Dubois, and Ohler, 2014, Alytes, 30: 11–28.

Discussed and revalidated by Perret, 1958, Rev. Suisse Zool., 65: 259, with synonymy of Hylambates cubitoalbus Boulenger, 1906, as well as Leptopelis tessmanni Nieden, 1909; the latter name having been much used before 1958. Pauwels, Rödel, and Toham, 2003, Hamadryad, 27: 271-273, reported the species in Gabon. Lasso, Rial, Castroviejo, and De la Riva, 2002, Graellsia, 58: 21-34, provided notes on ecological distribution in Equatorial Guinea. Jackson and Blackburn, 2007, Salamandra, 43: 149-164, provided a record for Nouabale-Ndoki National Park, Rep. Congo.
