Grant, Frost, Caldwell, Gagliardo, Haddad, Kok, Means, Noonan, Schargel, and Wheeler, 2006, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 299: 174, could not allocate this species beyond Aromobatidae, although they considered it likely that it is a species of Aromobates.
