Comment

See comment under Discoglossus galganoi for discussion of the controversies surrounding recognition of this taxon as a species distinct from Discoglossus galganoi. García-París, 1997, in Pleguezuelos (ed.), Dist. Biogeogr. Anf. Rep. Esp. Portugal: 134-136, provided brief accounts and detailed map. See statement of geographic range, habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 615. Rivera, Escoriza, Maluquer-Margalef, Arribas, and Carranza, 2011, Amf. Rept. Catalunya: 66-68, provided a brief account for northeastern Spain. Vences, de Pous, Nicolas, Díaz-Rodríguez, Donaire-Barroso, Hugemann, Hauswaldt, Amat, Barnestein, Bogaerts, Bouazza, Carranza, Galán, de la Vega, Joger, Lansari, El Mouden, Ohler, Sanuy, Slimani, and Tejedo, 2014, Amphibia-Reptilia, 35: 305-320, reported on molecular phylogenetics and presented data inconsistent with Discoglossus jeanneae being considered a different biological species than Discoglossus galganoi, but consistent with it being considered a different phylogenetic/evolutionary species, here treated as the latter in keeping with the general adoption of the evolutionary species concept in this catalogue. For thos who choose to apply the non-historical biological species concept, the combinations Discoglossus galganoi galganoi and Discoglossus galganoi jeanneae, should be applied.
