Distribution

Known from warm turbid waters in two widely separated areas in Brazil: 1) the Baia de Marajó, near the mouth of the Amazon River in the state of Belem, and 2) Cachoeira Santo Antônio) near the border between Brazil and Bolivia in the Madeira river, in the state of Rondônia, near the border with Bolivia; expected to have a much wider range, likely into Bolivia.

Wilkinson and Nussbaum, 2006, In Exbrayat (ed.), Reprod. Biol. Phylog. Gymnophiona: 69-70, diagnosed the taxon and briefly discussed its provenance. Hoogmoed, Maciel, and Coragem, 2012 "2011", Bol. Mus. Parense Emilio Goeldi, Cienc. Nat., 6: 241-262, noted four recently collected specimens and provided a wealth of information.
