Caecilia marcusi Wake, 1985 "1984", Amphibia-Reptilia, 5: 215. Holotype: ZSM 79/1982, by original designation. See comment by Glaw and Franzen, 2006, Spixiana, München, 29: 156. Type locality: "Villa Tunari, 400 m, via San Antonio on Río Chapare, Cochabamba Prov., Bolivia". See comment.

Distribution

Andean footshils in the southwestern Amazon Basin in Bolivia (Cochabamba and El Beni), and Brazil (states of Acre, western Mato Grosso, and Rondônia) below 400 m elevation; expected in adjacent southeastern Peru.

Maciel and Hoogmoed, 2011, Zootaxa, 2984: 11-14, provided a detailed account and a spot map, and noted no substantial diagnostic differences between this taxon and Caecilia mertensi, but having not examined the holotype of the latter, refrained from placing Caecilia marcusi in the synonymy of Caecilia mertensiFaria and Mott, 2011, Herpetol. Notes, 4: 53–56, discussed the range (as Caecilia mertensi) in Mato Grosso, Brazil. Bernarde, Machado, and Turci, 2011, Biota Neotrop., 11: 117–144, reported specimens from Reserva Extrativista Riozinho da Liberdade, Acre, Brazil. Maciel and Hoogmoed, 2011, Zootaxa, 2984: 11–14, who provided a detailed account of nominal Caecilia marcusi and a spot map, noted no substantial diagnostic differences between this taxon and Caecilia mertensi, but having not examined the holotype of the latter, refrained from placing Caecilia marcusi in the synonymy of Caecilia mertensi
