Oedipina (Oedopinola) savagei García-París and Wake, 2000, Copeia, 2000: 52. Holotype: LACM 109558, by original designation. Type locality: "Finca Las Cruces, 6 km S San Vito de Java, Prov. Puntarenas, Costa Rica, 8° 47′ 35″ N, 82° 57′ 30″ W, approximately 1200 m elev."

Distribution

Humid premontane Pacific versant in extreme south-western Costa Rica, from 1200–1400 m elevation; presumably in adjacent Panama. See comment.

Am.: 82–90, compared this species with others from Central America and provided a map and photograph. Raffaëlli, 2013, Urodeles du Monde, 2nd ed.: 376, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 852–853, provided an account summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map) and noting a pers. comm. reporting the species in Panama, although no vouchers were mentioned. Tighe, 2022, Smithson. Contrib. Zool., 654: 38–39, briefly discussed the current location of paratypes.
