Bolitoglossa zapoteca Parra-Olea, García-París, and Wake, 2002, J. Herpetol., 36: 363. Holotype: IBUNAM 13375, by original designation. Type locality: "1 km east Santa María Ecatepec, Oaxaca, México, 1875 m elevation, 16° 17.23′ N, 95° 53.30′ W".

Distribution

Known only from the mountains east of Quiegolani, ca. 1875 m elevation, in former pine-oak forest in the eastern portion of the Sierra Madre del Sur of Oaxaca, Mexico.

In the Bolitoglossa macrinii group according to the original publication which now constitutes the subgenus Oaxakia according to Parra-Olea, García-París, and Wake, 2004, Biol. J. Linn. Soc., 81: 336. Raffaëlli, 2013, Urodeles du Monde, 2nd ed.: 357–358, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 786, provided an account summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map).
