In the Bolitoglossa dunni group according to the original publication. Raffaëlli, 2007, Les Urodèles du Monde: 271, provided a brief account and map. McCranie, 2007, Herpetol. Rev., 38: 36, summarized the departmental distribution in Honduras. Reviewed by McCranie, 2008, Cat. Am. Amph. Rept., 843: 1-2. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 563.Townsend, Luque-Montes, and Wilson, 2011, Salamandra, 47: 50-54, provided a range extension and commented on the range. Köhler, 2011, Amph. Cent. Am.: 40–69, compared this species with others from Central America and provided a map and photograph.
