Bolitoglossa (Nanotriton) chinanteca Rovito, Parra-Olea, Lee, and Wake, 2012, ZooKeys, 185: 62. Holotype: IBH 24708, by original designation. Type locality: "10.3 km south (by rd) of center of Valle Nacional on Hwy. 175, Sierra de Juárez, Oaxaca, Mexico, 676 m elevation, 17.72390°N, 96.32100° W (WGS84 datum)".

Comment

Confused with Bolitoglossa rufescens prior to its naming, and the sister taxon of Bolitoglossa occidentalis, according to the original publication. Rovito, Parra-Olea, Vázquez-Almazán, Luna-Reyes, and Wake, 2012, BMC Evol. Biol., 12(255): 1-16, reported on molecular phylogenetics. Raffaëlli, 2013, Urodeles du Monde, 2nd ed.: 316, provided a brief account, photograph, and map. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 674, provided an account summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map).
