Hynobius shinichisatoi Nishikawa and Matsui, 2014, Zootaxa, 3852: 207. Holotype: KUHE 24878, by original designation. Type locality: "Saeki-shi, Oita Prefecture, Kyushu, Japan (alt. 900 m a.s.l.)".

Distribution

Kyushu Island, from the Sobo-Katamuki Mountains, the montane region consisting of the northwestern part of Miyazaki Prefecture, southwestern part of Oita Prefecture, and northeastern part of Kumamoto Prefecture, 550 m to 1400 m in elevation.

Comment

According to the original publication, confused with Hynobius boulengeri and the sister taxon of a group composed of Hynobius osumiensis, Hynobius amakusaensis, and Hynobius stejnegeri. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 124–125, provided an account, summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map).
