Distribution

Southwestern Honshu, Japan, mainly along the Japan Sea in northwestern Shimane and adjacent Hiroshima Prefectures, 38 to 100 m elevation.

Comment

Prior to its naming, confused with Hynobius nebulosus according to the original publication. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 93–94, provided an account, summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map).
