Syntypes: "several specimens"—BMNH (these being 1896.4.29.96–98, now renumbered 1947.2.8.94–96 by museum records) and NHMB according to Inger, 1985, in Frost (ed.), Amph. Species World: 545; NHMB 1188 designated lectotype by Forcart, 1946, Verh. Naturforsch. Ges. Basel, 57: 131. Type locality: "Loka, about 3500 feet, and one from the north slope of the Bonthain Peak, 2600 feet", Celebes, Indonesia.

Wanger, Motzke, Saleh, and Iskandar, 2011, Salamandra, 47: 17–29, reported the species from central Sulawesi, Indonesia.
