Rana papua Lesson, 1829, in Duperrey (ed.), Voyage Coquille, Zool., Atlas (Livr. 11): pl. 7, fig. 1 (description by indication). Syntypes: MNHNP 4575 (2 specimens), according to Guibé, 1950 "1948", Cat. Types Amph. Mus. Natl. Hist. Nat.: 42. Clearly including animal figured in the original. Type locality: "Ile de Waigiou" (= Waigeo I.), Papua (New Guinea), Indonesia, acording to Lesson, 1831, in Duperrey (ed.), Zool., Voyage Coquille, 2 (Pt. 1), Livr. 25: 59; rendered as "Offak Bay (now spelt Fak Fak Bay) on the north coast of Waigeo Island" by Menzies, 1992, Sci. New Guinea, 18: 117.
