Comment

Section Hylarana, subsection Hylarana, Rana (Odorrana) andersonii group of Dubois, 1992, Bull. Mens. Soc. Linn. Lyon, 61: 329. Related to Rana anlungensis, according to the original publication. Yang, 1991, Amph. Fauna of Yunnan: 153–155, and Fei, 1999, Atlas Amph. China: 200–201, provided accounts. Ye and Fei, 2001, Acta Zool. Sinica, 47: 528–534, placed this in their Odorrana schmackeri group. In the Odorrana (Odorrana) schmackeri group of Fei, Ye, Huang, Jiang, and Xie, 2005, in Fei et al. (eds.), Illust. Key Chinese Amph.: 126. Nguyen, Ho, and Nguyen, 2005, Checklist Amph. Rept. Vietnam: 30, provided specific localities of Rana megatmpanum for Vietnam. Nguyen, Ho, and Nguyen, 2005, Checklist Amph. Rept. Vietnam: 148, provided a photograph of nominal Rana tabaca. See discussion by Ohler, 2007, Alytes, 25: 55–74, who placed Rana megatympanum and Rana heatwolei into synonymy (the latter now resurrected) based on morphological characteristics. Yang, 2008, in Yang and Rao (ed.), Amph. Rept. Yunnan: 81–82, provided a brief account (as Rana tiannanensis) for Yunnan, China. See statement of geographic range, habitat, and conservation status (as Rana tiannanensis) in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 633, who suggested that the Hainan population may represent a distinct species. Mo, Zhou, Xie, and Chen, 2007, Herpetol. Sinica, 11: 15–18, reported the species in Guangxi, China. Fei, Hu, Ye, and Huang, 2009, Fauna Sinica, Amph. 3: 1294–1298, provided an account, figures, and map for China, and placed it in their Odorrana (Odorrana) schmackeri group. Fei, Ye, and Jiang, 2010, Colored Atlas of Chinese Amph.: 345, provided a brief account including photographs. Shi, 2011, Amph. Rept. Fauna Hainan: 98–100, provided an account for Hainan as Rana tiannanensisFei, Ye, and Jiang, 2012, Colored Atlas Chinese Amph. Distr.: 392, provided an account, photographs, and a revised range map for China. Poyarkov, Nguyen, Popov, Geissler, Pawangkhanant, Neang, Suwannapoom, and Orlov, 2021, Russ. J. Herpetol., 28 (3A): 49–50, disputed the synonymy of Rana megatympanum and Rana heatwolei as premature. Reported from Son La Province, northwestern Vietnam, by Pham, Nguyen, Pham, Sung, Le, Vaxong, and Ziegler, 2022, Herpetol. Notes, 15: 169–178, who also provided descriptive notes on the new specimens. Duong and Ngo, 2022, Herpetol. Notes, 15: 751–762, discussed range in Vietnam and provided records for Binh Dinh Province (which being in southern Vietnam is a big enough extension to require genetic confirmation: DRF).
