Microhyla mukhlesuri Hasan, Islam, Kuramoto, Kurabayashi, and Sumida, 2014, Zootaxa, 3755: 408. Holotype: IABHU 3956, by original designation. Type locality: "Raozan, Chittagong (22º 35′ N, 91º 55′ E, > 9 m asl.), Bangladesh".

Distribution

South and west of the Red River Valley of Yunnan, China, and Vietnam south to at least Quang Nam Province; from there through Myanmar west to West Bengal and Mizoram (India), eastern Bangladesh, and south through Thailand and through the Malay Peninsula and (introduced) to Singapore.

Confused with Microhyla ornata prior to its naming according to the original publication. Heyer, 1971, Fieldiana, Zool., 58: 61–82, reported on the call (as Microhyla ornata) from Thailand (assigned to this species based on geography–DRF). Yuan, Suwannapoom, Yan, Poyarkov, Nguyen, Chen, Chomdej, Murphy, and Che, 2016, Curr. Zool., Chengdu, 62: 531–543, on the basis of molecular analysis, provided a discussion of Pleistocene climatic fluctuations on how they shaped the genetic structure of the Microhyla fissipes complex (Microhyla mukhlesuri and Microhyla fissipes); this study documented that Microhyla mukhlesuri includes all populations formerly assigned to Microhyla fissipes south and west of the Red River Valley of Yunnan, China, and Vietnam. See comment under Microhyla fissipes for literature that presumably applies at least in part to this species. Recorded for Thailand (as Microhyla ornata) by Khonsue and Thirakhupt, 2001, Nat. Hist. Threatened Taxa, 13: 17918–17929, provided the record for Dampa Tiger Reserve, Mizoram, India. Hong, Anuar, Grismer, and Quah, 2021, Check List, 17: 796, reported the species from Batu Hampar Recreational Forest, Kedah, West Malaysia. Pratihar and Deuti, 2021, J. Threatened Taxa, 13: 19818–19823, provided a record for West Bengal, India, and provided morphological characters to identify this species from Microhyla mymensinghensis. Zug, 2022, Smithson. Contrib. Zool., 653: 32, briefly discussed identification, habitat, and range in Myanmar. Ziegler, Ong, Hoang, Pham, and Nguyen, 2022, Acad. J. Biol., 44: 114, referred their earlier record of Microhyla minor (Ziegler, 2002, Amph. Rept. Tieflandfeuchtwald–Schutzgebietes Vietnam: 1–342) from Ke Go Nature Reserve, Ha Tinh Province, Vietnam, to Microhyla mukhlesuri. Figueroa, Low, and Lim, 2023, Zootaxa, 5287: 1–378, provided (as Microhyla cf. mukhlesuri) records, literature, and conservation status for this species introduced to Singapore.
