Comment

See Cochran, 1955 "1954", Bull. U.S. Natl. Mus., 206: 371-372, for account. Carvalho, 1948, Bol. Mus. Nac., Rio de Janeiro, N.S., Zool., 84: 1-13, showed this species to be separate from Hypopachus mülleri (= Dermatonotus muelleri), stated that the type was collected in the littoral of Espírito Santo, and unscrambled the synonymies of the two species. Stereocyclops hypomelas (Miranda-Ribeiro, 1920) is probably a distinct species, based on unpublished data of Albuquerque (WCAB (now in MZUSP)). Cei, 1956, Invest. Zool. Chilen., 3: 65, considered this species a synonym of Dermatonotus muelleri. Moura, Andrade, and Freire, 2010, Check List, 6: 71-72, detailed the range and provided records from Alagoas and Pernambuco, Brazil. See Dubeux, Nascimento, Lima, Magalhães, Silva, Gonçalves, Almeida, Correia, Garda, Mesquita, Rossa-Feres, and Mott, 2020, Biota Neotrop., 20 (2: e20180718): 1–24, for characterization and identification of larvae north of the Rio São Francisco in the Atlantic Forest of northeastern Brazil.
