Elachistocleis erythrogaster Kwet and Di-Bernardo, 1998, Stud. Neotrop. Fauna Environ., 33: 9. Holotype: MCP 2450, by original designation. Type locality: "about one km from the entrance to the 'Centro de Pesquisas e Conservação da Natureza Pró-Mata', 29° 30′ S, 50° 10′ W, municipality São Francisco de Paula, (960 m NN), state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil".

Restricted to the southeastern border of the Planalto das Araucárias, Serra Geral, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and 900–1200 m elevation.
