Sphenophryne Anthonyi Boulenger, 1897, Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., Ser. 6, 19: 10. Syntypes: BMNH 1896.10.31.43–49, according to Parker, 1934, Monogr. Frogs Fam. Microhylidae: 169 (renumbered as BMNH 1947.2.13.34–40), and MCZ 2896 (according to Barbour and Loveridge, 1929, Bull. Mus. Comp. Zool., 69: 344), according to Zweifel, 1985, in Frost (ed.), Amph. Species World: 368. Type locality: "Mount Victoria, Owen Stanley Range, [Papua New Guinea, probably Central Province,] New Guinea".
