Cophixalus cheesmanae Parker, 1934, Monogr. Frogs Fam. Microhylidae: 175. Holotype: BMNH 1934.1.5.5, by original designation; renumbered as BMNH 1947.2.11.97 according to Zweifel, 1979, Am. Mus. Novit., 2678: 11. Type locality: "Kokoda (1,200 ft.) [Northern Province], British New Guinea [Papua New Guinea]".

Asterophrys cheesmanae — Dubois, Ohler, and Pyron, 2021, Megataxa, 5: 479, by implication.

English Names

Kokoda Rainforest Frog (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 88).

Distribution

Lowlands and foothills, below 1600 m, from the foothills of the Adelbert Mountains in the north and the Purari River in the south, eastwards to Mount Suckling, Papua New Guinea; disjunct records from the Idenburg River area, 850–1800 m in Papua, Indonesia, that may indicate a continuous distribution through northern New Guinea.
