Aphantophryne sabini Zweifel and Parker, 1989, Am. Mus. Novit., 2954: 4. Holotype: AMNH 130298, by original designation. Type locality: "Myola Guest House, 2080 m, 7 km south, 6 km west of Mt. Bellamy, Northern Province, Papua New Guinea".
