Megophrys (Xenophrys) himalayana Mahony, Kamei, Teeling, and Biju, 2018, Zootaxa, 4523: 54. Holotype: BNHS 6050, by original designation. Type locality: "Elephant village (27°4′56.52″N, 92°34′50.22″E, 370 m asl.), West Kameng district, Arunachal Pradesh state, Northeast India". Stated by Lyu, Qi, Wang, Zhang, Zhao, Zeng, Wan, Yang, Mo, and Wang, 2023, Zool. Res., Kunming, 44: 406, as "Cona County (N27°04′56.52″, E92°34′50.22″; 370 m a.s.l.), Shannan, Xizang, China" by Lyu, Qi, Wang, Zhang, Zhao, Zeng, Wan, Yang, Mo, and Wang, 2023, Zool. English Names

Himalayan Horned Frog (original publication; Dinesh, Radhakrishnan, Deepak, and Kulkarni, 2023, Fauna India Checklist, vers. 5.0 : 6).

Distribution

Currently known only from two widely separated localities in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh, indicating a distribution from at least East Siang district, west to West Kameng district, at low elevation (375–410 m elevation), also from Cora and Medog counties, Xizang, China.

In the Megophrys major complex according to the original publication. See comment under Megophrys major for older literature that may refer in part to this species. In the Xenophrys major group of Lyu, Zeng, Wang, Liu, Huang, Li, and Wang, 2021, Zootaxa, 4927: 9–40, and  Lyu, Qi, Wang, Zhang, Zhao, Zeng, Wan, Yang, Mo, and Wang, 2023, Zool. Res., Kunming, 44: 380–450, who (p. 405), provided an account, curiously moving the type locality from India into China, and included Cora and Medog counties, Xizang, China, within the range.
