Leptolalax firthi Rowley, Hoang, Dau, Le, and Cao, 2012, Zootaxa, 3321: 58. Holotype: AMS R 176524, by original designation. Type locality: "on fern 0.1 m from slightly disturbed, 1-3 m wide, rocky stream with small cascades in montane evergreen forest in Ngoc Linh Nature Reserve, Kon Tum Province, Vietnam (15.0628° N, 107.8587° E, 1716 m, . . .)".

Distribution

Montane evergreen forest (ca. 860 to 1720 m elevation) in Kon Tum, Quang Nam, and Gia Lai Provinces, central Vietnam, and into Dakcheung District, Xekong Province, southeastern Laos.

The advertisement call, external morphology, natural history, and conservation status were detailed in the original publication. Chen, Poyarkov, Suwannapoom, Lathrop, Wu, Zhou, Yuan, Jin, Chen, Liu, Nguyen, Nguyen, Duong, Eto, Nishikawa, Matsui, Orlov, Stuart, Brown, Rowley, Murphy, Wang, and Che, 2018, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 124: 169, provided records from Kon Ka Kinh National Park, Gia Lai Province, and Son Thanh Nature Reserve, Thanh Hoa, Vietnam. Poyarkov, Nguyen, Popov, Geissler, Pawangkhanant, Neang, Suwannapoom, and Orlov, 2021, Russ. J. Herpetol., 28 (3A): 29, suggested that the species would eventually be found in Laos. Brakels, Maury, and Nguyen, 2021, Herpetol. Rev., 52: 791–792, reported a collecftion locality of Laeng Nam Xekong-Xekaman Protection Forest, Dakcheung District, Xekong Province, Laos.
