Hist., 297, considered Notaden to be the sister taxon of Opisthodon (now Platyplectrum) + Lechriodus. Pyron and Wiens, 2011, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 61: 543-583, confirmed the monophyly of the group and provided a tree of their molecular exemplars, but suggested a close relationship to Neobatrachus.
