Northeastern Brazil south of the Rio São Francisco from Sergipe, Bahia, and to northeastern Goiás and central Minas Gerais; an apparently isolated population in the municipality of Aracruz, state of Espirito Santo, Brazil.

Literature prior to 2021 may also refer to collections of what is now Pithecopus gonzagai which was not segregated from Pithecopus nordestinus until November 2020.
