Trachycephalus cunauaru Gordo, Toledo, Suárez, Kawashita-Ribeiro, Ávila, Morais, and Nunes, 2013, Herpetologica, 69: 468. Holotype: INPA 11540, by original designation. Type locality: "Purus River, Boca do Tapaua´ River (05°4159.9S, 64°2455.3W, 65 m a.s.l.), Municipality of Canutama, Amazonas State, Brazil".

Distribution

Forested areas of the western (likely west of the Rio Negro), central, and southern Amazonian rainforest in Brazil (Amazonas, southern Pará, northern Mato Grosso, Acre, and Rondônia), northern Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, and likely southeastern Colombia and possibly to southern Venezuela.

Previously confused with Trachycephalus resinifictrix according to the original publication. Hödl, 1991, Wiss. Film, Wien, 42: 63–70, described the advertisement call (as Phrynohyas resinifictrix). Rodríguez and Duellman, 1994, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 22: 42, provided a brief account for the Iquitos region of northeastern Peru as Phrynohyas resinifictrixDe la Riva, Köhler, Lötters, and Reichle, 2000, Rev. Esp. Herpetol., 14: 35, provided the Bolivian record (as Phrynohyas resinifictrix). Forti, Foratto, Márquez, Pereira, and Toledo, 2018, PeerJ, 6(e4813): 1–19, characterized the advertisement call. França and Venâncio, 2010, Biotemas, 23: 71–84, provided a record (as Trachycephalus resinifictrix) for the municipality of Boca do Acre, Amazonas, with a brief discussion of the range. Meneghelli and Calderon, 2017, Herpetol. Notes, 10: 119-121, reported the species from Rondônia, Brazil, and provided a dot map of the species. Forti, Foratto, Márquez, Pereira, and Toledo, 2018, PeerJ, 6(e4813): 1–19, characterized the advertisement call (as Trachycephalus resinifictrix). Metcalf, Marsh, Torres Pacaya, Graham, and Gunnels, 2020, Herpetol.
