Hyloscirtus criptico Coloma, Carvajal-Endara, Dueñas, Paredes-Recalde, Morales-Mite, Almeida-Reinoso, Tapia, Hutter, Toral-Contreras, and Guayasamin, 2012, Zootaxa, 3364: 20. Holotype: CJ 311, by original designation. Type locality: "a cascading stream on the borderline between Reserva Cotacachi-Cayapas and private land owned by Manuel Quinchiguango, at Recinto San Antonio, Cuellaje, Provincia Imbabura, Ecuador (0° 28′ 23.772″ N, 78° 34′ 12.756″ W; 2794 m)".

English Names

Cryptic Torrenteer (Arteaga-Navarro, Bustamante, and Guayasamin, 2013, Amph. Rept. Mindo: 107). 

Distribution

Three localities at elevations of 2175 to 2794 m, in cascading streams in montane cloud forest on the western versant of Cordillera Occidental of the Andes from Carchi, Imbabura, and Pichincha provinces, Ecuador.

Comment

In the Hyloscirtus larinopygion group according to the original publication. Arteaga-Navarro, Bustamante, and Guayasamin, 2013, Amph. Rept. Mindo: 107–109, provided an account and dot map. Proaño, Proaño-Morales, and Guayasamin, 2022, Ecosistemas, 31 (2: 2137): 1–9, reported a specimen from the Sierra de Toisán, Imbabura, Ecuador.
