Included in the Hyla circumdata group by Caramaschi, Napoli, and Bernardes, 2001, Bol. Mus. Nac., Rio de Janeiro, N.S., Zool., 457: 1–11. In the Bokermannohyla martinsi group of Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 83. Canelas and Bertoluci, 2007, Iheringia, Zool., 97: 21–26, provided a record for the Serra do Caraça, southern end of the Serra do Espinhaço, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Leite and Eterovick, 2010, J. Herpetol., 44: 431–440, reported on larval morphology. Pinheiro, Taucce, Leite, and Garcia, 2014, Zootaxa, 3815: 147–150, reported on the advertisement call.
