In the Hypsiboas punctatus group according to the original publication. Kok and Kalamandeen, 2008, Intr. Taxon. Amph. Kaieteur Natl. Park: 172-173, provided an account and noted that the generic assignment of the species remains uncertain. See Cole, Townsend, Reynolds, MacCulloch, and Lathrop, 2013, Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 125: 406, for brief account and records for Guyana. See Pinheiro, Kok, Noonan, Means, Haddad, and Faivovich, 2018, Zool. J. Linn. Soc., 185: 226–245, for discussion of the literature and systematics
