Comment

In the Gastrotheca ovifera group by implication of Duellman, Maxson, and Jesiolowski, 1988, Copeia, 1988: 527–543. See account by Caramaschi and Rodrigues, 2007, Bol. Mus. Nac., Rio de Janeiro, N.S., Zool., 525: 1–19. Confused with Gastrotheca megacephala prior to the naming of the latter. Mira-Mendes, Ruas, Lourenço-de-Moraes, Rödder, and Solé, 2012, Zootaxa, 3312: 62–64, reported on advertisement call and range, suggesting sympatry with Gastrotheca megacephala in coastal Bahia, Brazil. Xavier and Dias, 2015, Herpetol. Rev., 46: 212, provided a record for Sergipe, Brazil. In the Gastrotheca fissipes group of  Castroviejo-Fisher, Padial, De la Riva, Pombal, Silva, Rojas-Runjaic, Medina-Méndez, and Frost, 2015, Zootaxa, 4004: 1–72. See detailed account by Duellman, 2015, Marsupial Frogs: 122–128. Juncá, 2006, Biota Neotrop., 6: 1–17, briefly summarized the presence of this species in the Serra da Jibóia region, Bahia, Brazil, and its habitat. Roberto, Santos, and Carvalho, 2019, Zootaxa, 4543: 284–286, reported on the advertisement call. Reported from the Environmental Protection Area of Catolé and Fernão Velho, Alagoas, Brazil, by Dubeux, Nascimento, Gonçalves, and Mott, 2021, Pap. Avulsos Zool., São Paulo, 61 (e20216176): 1–10, who provided a key to the frogs of that region.
