Díaz and Cádiz, 2007, Herpetotropicos, Mérida, 3: 100–122, reported on the advertisement call. In the Eleutherodactylus (Euhyas) luteolus species series, monotypic Eleutherodactylus toa species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 73, and of Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 130.
