Comment

The allocation of this species to the "black chest-bar" group by Edwards, 1974, Occas. Pap. Mus. Nat. Hist. Univ. Kansas, 30: 2, was based on misidentified specimens of Mannophryne collaris (J.A. Rivero IN Frost, 1985, Amph. Species World: 92). Barrio-Amorós, 2004, Rev. Ecol. Lat. Am., 9: 7, reported on distribution and relevant literature. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status (as Nephelobates meridentis) in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 235. La Marca and Otero-López, 2012, Herpetotropicos, Mérida, 7: 55-74, discussed the types. Barrio-Amorós, Romero, and Infante-Rivero, 2010, Rev. Ecol. Latinoam., 15: 1–12, redesdribed the species and summarized its natural history and conservation. See Barrio-Amorós, Rojas-Runjaic, and Señaris, 2019, Amph. Rept. Conserv., 13 (1: e180): 42, for comments on range, taxonomy, and literature.
