Comment

Partitioned from Phrynopus on phylogenetic grounds by Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 99, from which it is geographically separated by the Rio Apurimac valley according to Lehr and Catenazzi, 2009, S. Am. J. Herpetol., 4: 125–138, who mapped the type localities of the species know in August, 2009. Duellman and Lehr, 2009, Terrest.-breeding Frogs in Peru: 76–79, provided accounts. Pyron and Wiens, 2011, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 61: 543–583, suggested that Bryophryne is the sister taxon of Holoaden. This was rejected by González-Durán, Targino, Rada, and Grant, 2017, Zootaxa, 4243: 42–74.
