In the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) conspicillatus series, Eleutherodactylus conspicillatus group according to the original publication. In the Pristimantis (Pristimantis) conspicillatus species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 120. Not assignable to a species group according to Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 127. See statement of geographic range, habitat, and conservation status (as Eleutherodactylus illotus) in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 620.
