Platymantis akarithymus Brown and Tyler, 1968, Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 81: 76. Holotype: SAMA 7073, by original designation. Type locality: "Pomugu area about seven miles northwest of Kandrian on the south coast of New Britain Island".

Platymantis akarithyma — Günther, 1999, Mitt. Mus. Naturkd. Berlin, Zool., 75: 327-328, by implication. Unjustified emendation according to Kraus and Allison, 2007, Zootaxa, 1485: 29-30.
