Platymantis akarithymus Brown and Tyler, 1968, Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 81: 76. Holotype: SAMA 7073, by original designation. Type locality: "Pomugu area about seven miles northwest of Kandrian on the south coast of New Britain Island".
