Cochranella talamancae Taylor, 1952, Univ. Kansas Sci. Bull., 35: 781. Holotype: KU 30887, according to Duellman, 1977, Das Tierreich, 95: 195 (not KU 4143 as originally stated, 4143 is the R.C. Taylor field number). Type locality: "Moravia [de Chirripó, Cantón de Turrialba, Provincia Cartago], Costa Rica, Caribbean drainage". Savage, 1974, Rev. Biol. Tropical, 22: 98, commented on the type locality.

Distribution

Associated with high-gradient streams at elevations of 475 to 1600 m in Cartago, eastern Guanacaste, southern Heredia, and central Limón provinces of Costa Rica, as well as reported from La Nevera, Ngöbe-Buglé Province, Panama.

Comment

In the Hyalinobatrachium fleischmanni group, according to Ruiz-Carranza and Lynch, 1991, Lozania, 57: 1-30. Kubicki, 2006, Brenesia, 66: 25-30, reported on new collections of this species. Kubicki, 2007, Glass Frogs Costa Rica: 230-249, provided an account and detailed range map for Costa Rica. Köhler, 2011, Amph. Cent. Am.: 121–125, compared the species of Central America and provided an identification key, maps, and photographs. Hertz, Lotzkat, Stadler, Hamad, Carrizo, and Köhler, 2011, Herpetol. Rev., 42: 247, reported the species from ca. 6 km NNW of Hato Chamí, Ngöbe-Buglé Province, Panama, and suggested that this species may be synonymouss with Hyalinobatrachium vireovittatum. Zamora-Roda, Herrera-Martínez, and Salazar, 2021, Reptiles & Amphibians, 28: 550–552, provided new localities and a dot map for the species.  Díaz-Ricaurte and Guevara-Molina, 2022, Stud. Neotrop. Fauna Environ., 57: 51–65, provided records of Hyalinobatrachium cf. talamancae from Risaralda, Caldas, Valle del Cauca, and Antioquia Departments, Colombia, which they placed far from Hyalinobatrachium talamanca sensu stricto in their molecular tree.
