Cochranella xanthocheridia Ruiz-Carranza and Lynch, 1995, Lozania, 63: 2. Holotype: ICN 27758, by original designation. Type locality: "Departamento de Risaralda, municipio de Pueblo Rico, camino a 'La Selva' (Repetidora TV), vertiente occidental de la Cordillera Occidental, 5° 11′ latitud N, 76° 6′ W de Greenwich, 1700-2060 m", Colombia.

On the western slope of the Cordillera Occidental in Colombia in the departments of Antioquia and Risaralda as well as Cerro Murrucucú in the department of Córdoba, 480–2060 m elevation.

See map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 217. Guayasamin, Castroviejo-Fisher, Trueb, Ayarzagüena, Rada, and Vilà, 2009, Zootaxa, 2100: 59, regarded this species as incertae sedis within Centroleninae. Romero-Martínez, Vidal-Pastrana, Lynch, and Dueñas, 2008, Caldasia, 30: 209–229, discussed the population on Cerro Murrucucú, Córdoba, Colombia.
