Comment

Most closely related to Incilius fastidiosus and Incilius holdridgei (both as Bufo), according to the original publication. Not formally assigned to any species group but in the original publication said to be related to the Bufo valliceps group; subsequently referred to the Bufo fastidiosus group by Savage, 2002, Amph. Rept. Costa Rica: 195. See Savage and Donnelly, 1992, J. Herpetol., 26: 72–74, for additional specimens and comments on variation. See map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status (as Bufo peripatetes) in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 189. Mendelson, Mulcahy, Williams, and Sites, 2011, Zootaxa, 3138: 1–34, suggested that this species is a member of a monophyletic Incilius coniferus group that includes Incilius coniferus, Incilius chompipe, Incilius epioticus, Incilius fastidiosus, Incilius guanacastes, Incilius holdridgei, Incilius karenlipsae, Incilius periglenes, and Incilius peripatetes. Cerro Bollo records now assigned to Incilius majordomusKöhler, 2011, Amph. Cent. Am.: 104–115, compared this species to others in Central America and provided a range map and photograph. Specimens rom Cerro Bollo, Chiriquí, Panama, are now considered Incilius majordomus.
