Atelopus podocarpus Coloma, Duellman, Almendáriz C., Ron, Terán-Valdez, and Guayasamin, 2010, Zootaxa, 2574: 28. Holotype: QCAZ 6801, by original designation. Type locality: "Lagunas del Compadre (4°10′ S, 79°06′ W; ca. 3300 m), Parque Nacional Podocarpus, Provincia Loja, Ecuador".

English Names

Podocarpus Harlequin Frog (Székely, Eguiguren, Ordóñez-Delgado, Armijos-Ojeda, and Székely, 2020, PLoS One, 15(9: e0238306): 8). 

Distribution

Known from páramo and subpáramo habitats in the southern Cordillera Oriental of Ecuador (Provincias Loja, San Francisco, and Zamora Chinchipe) to Departamento Piura in the Cordillera de Huancabamba in northern Peru, 1014 to 3423 m elevation.

Extinct according to the original publication. Jervis, Karlsdόttir, Jehle, Almeida-Reinoso, Almeida-Reinoso, Ron, Fisher, and Merino-Viteri, 2020, Amph. Rept. Conserv., 14 (2: e243): 157–164, reported on its rediscovery and threats to its continued survival. Székely, Eguiguren, Ordóñez-Delgado, Armijos-Ojeda, and Székely, 2020, PLoS One, 15(9: e0238306): 8, noted in their survey that the animal could not be found.
