Phrynopus tautzorum Lehr and Aguilar, 2003, Zool. Abh. Staatl. Mus. Tierkd. Dresden, 53: 88. Holotype: MUSM 20612, by original designation. Type locality: "under a stone about 15 km southeast of Maraypata near Laguna Gwengway (10° 11.04′ S, 76° 05.17′ W, 3770 m above sea level), Provincia Ambo, Departamento de Huánuco, Peru".

Known only from the type locality (15 km southeast of Maraypata, Provincia Ambo, Departamento de Huánuco) at 3770 m elevation in the puna of the eastern Andean slopes of central Peru.
