Comment

See account and redescription provided by Lynch, 1980, Herpetologica, 36: 175–189. See comments under Eleutherodactylus calcarulatus and Eleutherodactylus ockendeni. Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 138, note that Ecuadorian records of this species are based on specimens of Eleutherodactylus ockendeni and mistaken locality data. In the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) martinicensis series, Eleutherodactylus unistrigatus group according to Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 233. See also Lynch and Ardila-Robayo, 1999, Rev. Acad. Colomb. Cienc. Exact. Fis. Nat., 23: 615-624. Savage, 2002, Amph. Rept. Costa Rica: 227, placed this species in his Eleutherodactylus martinicensis series, Eleutherodactylus cruentus group. In the Pristimantis (Pristimantis) frater species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 121. Not assignable to a species group according to Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 128. Köhler, 2011, Amph. Cent. Am.: 140–191, provided a key to the genera and species of Brachycephaloidea (= Craugastoridae + Eleutherodactylidae) in Central America and provided maps and photographs of the species. Palacio Baena, Muñoz Escobar, Gallo Delgado, and Rivera-Correa, 2006, Anfibios y Reptiles del Valle de Aburrá: 45–47, provided a brief account and photograph. See brief comments on range, natural history, and possible cryptic species in Panama by Batista, Hertz, Ponce, and Lotzkat, 2020, Herpetol. Notes, 13: 219–229. Arias, Barrio-Amorós, García-Rodríguez, and Chaves, 2023, Rev. Latinoam. Herpetol., 5: 1–9, reported specimens from eastern-most Costa Rica (Provincia Puntarenas, Cantons of Coto Brus and Buenos Aireas), described the advertisement call, molecular markers, comparative morphology, and range and noted that molecular evidence suggests that Magdalena Valley of Colombia of Pristimantis taeniatus should be reassigned to Pristimantis yukba. Falcón-Espitia, Ríos-Orjuela, Martínez-Botero, Arias-Escobar, and Plazas-Cardona, 2023, Phyllomedusa, 22: 57–61, discussed vocalizations and implied that this taxon requires further systematic work. Londoño-Quiceno and Gutiérrez-Cárdenas, 2023, Zootaxa, 5319: 443–450, reported on the advertisement call from a population in the Magdalena River valley of Colombia at the Municipality of Norcasia, Caldas, Colombia, 758 m elevation.
