Distribution

Elevations of 1735 to 1840 m in humid montane forest on the western slope of the Cordillera de Huancabamba in northern Peru; also recorded from the Cordillera Occidental at Chota (Departamento de Cajamarca) and Cerro Aypate and Toronche, Departamento de Piura, Peru; Provincia Loja, Ecuador, at 2000 m elevation.

In the Eleutherodactylus (Eleutherodactylus) martinicensis series, Eleutherodactylus unistrigatus group according to Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 233. Duellman and Lehr, 2007, Sci. Pap. Nat. Hist. Mus. Univ. Kansas, 39: 1–13, briefly discussed the range. In the Pristimantis (Pristimantis) unistrigatus species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 128. Not assignable to a species group according to Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 128. See Duellman and Lehr, 2009, Terrest.-breeding Frogs in Peru: 241–242, for brief account. Yánez-Muñoz, Toral-Contreras, Meza-Ramos, Reyes-Puig, Bejarano-Muñoz, Mueses-Cisneros, and Paucar, 2012, Check List, 8: 286–290, reported this species in the Provincia Loja, Ecuador, at 4527-4538 m elevation.
