Comment

See comments under Bombina maxima for additional references dealing with the ins-and-outs of synonymy with that species. S. Hu in Clarke, 1985, in Frost (ed.), Amph. Species World: 107, rejected the record for Guangxi, China. Bombina microdeligitora was considered a synonym (and color variant) of Bombina maxima by Stugren, 1986, Stud. Univ. Babes-Bolyai, Biol., 31: 40, but recognition was continued by Zhao and Adler, 1993, Herpetol. China: 115. See account, map, and figure by Yang, 1991, Amph. Guangxi : 38, provided an account for Guangxi. Ohler, Marquis, Swan, and Grosjean, 2000, Herpetozoa, Wien, 13: 7174, provided comments relevant to the Vietnam population, noting that all earlier records of Bombina maxima from Vietnam are referrable of this species. Orlov, Murphy, Ananjeva, Ryabov, and Ho, 2002, Russ. J. Herpetol., 9: 81–104, provided the range in Vietnam. Bain and Nguyen, 2004, Am. Mus. Novit., 3453: 9, provided the record for Ha Giang Province, Vietnam. Nguyen, Ho, and Nguyen, 2005, Checklist Amph. Rept. Vietnam: 147, provided a photograph. Yunnan: 22–24, provided a brief account for Yunnan, China. Fei, Hu, Ye, and Huang, 2009, Fauna Sinica, Amph. 2: 70–75, provided an account, illustration, and dot map (that volume appears to have been written prior to the revision by Yu, Yang, Zhang, and Rao, 2007).See photographs, maps, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. Evol., 52: 70–83, recognized Bombina microdeladigitoraBombina lichuanensis, and Bombina fortinuptialis as separate species and provided molecular evidence consistent with this view. Fei, Ye, and Jiang, 2010, Colored Atlas of Chinese Amph.: 106, provided brief account, including photographs of specimens and habitat. See photograph, map, descriptions of geographic range and habitats, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. Evol., 69: 63–74, questioned the distinctivness of Bombina microdeladigitora, Bombina lichuanensis, and Bombina fortinuptialis due to low mtDNA distances between those populations. Fei, Ye, and Jiang, 2012, Colored Atlas Chinese Amph. Distr.: 126–134, provided accounts, photographs, and a map. Fei and Ye, 2016, Amph. China, 1: 437–441, 444–446, considered Bombina microdeladigitoraBombina lichuanensis, and Bombina fortinuptialis distinct species without comment and provided accounts for all three. See Poyarkov, Nguyen, Popov, Geissler, Pawangkhanant, Neang, Suwannapoom, and Orlov, 2021, Russ.
