Comment

Removed from the synonymy of Leptopelis rufus by Mertens, 1940, Senckenb. Biol., 22: 130, where it had been placed by Noble, 1924, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 49: 242. Leptopelis anchietae nordequatorialis Perret, 1966, is now considered a distinct species, as is Leptopelis oryi Inger, 1968. See Amiet and Schiøtz, 1974, Ann. Fac. Sci. Cameroun, 17: 148–149; Schiøtz, 1975, Treefrogs E. Afr.: 11–13; and Perret, 1976, Arq. Mus. Bocage, Ser. 2, 6: 22–23. Laurent, 1985, in Frost (ed.), Amph. Species World: 227 suggested that both of these taxa are probably subspecies of Leptopelis anchietae. See comment under Leptopelis oryiSchiøtz, 1999, Treefrogs Afr.: 306–307, and Channing, 2001, Amph. Cent. S. Afr.: 196–197, provided accounts. Channing, Rödel, and Channing, 2012, Tadpoles of Africa: 106–107, reported on comparative tadpole morphology. Conradie, Keates, Verburgt, Baptista, and Harvey, 2023, Amph. Rept. Conserv., 17: 25, provided an account and dot map of the species in Angola. Marques, Ceríaco, Blackburn, and Bauer, 2018, Proc. California Acad. Sci., Ser. 4, 65 (Suppl. II): 121–122, provided a map and brief account for Angola. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 218–219, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map. Becker, Baptista, Vaz Pinto, Ernst, and Conradie, 2023, Namib. J. Environm., 8: 245–257, discussed this species, its range in the highlands of Angola, and provided a dot map.
