Syntypes: ZMB 9524, NHMW 9141, AMNH 23499 (although only 2 specimens in ZMB mentioned in original publication and by Fischer, 1880, Arch. Naturgesch., 46: 216—DRF); ZMB 9524 designated lectotype by Taylor, 1969, Univ. Kansas Sci. Bull., 48: 282. Type locality: "Caceres [= Cáceres], Provinz Antioquia (Neu Granada)", Colombia.

Distribution

Valleys of the Magdalena and Cauca rivers as well as in Cordoba, northern Colombia.

Zool. Mus. Berlin, 69: 286, regarding the description and the types. Lynch, 2000 "1999", Rev. Acad. Colomb. Cienc. Exact. Fis. Nat., 23: 330, commented on the range and provided a map.
