Syntypes: ZMB 9524, NHMW 9141, AMNH 23499 (although only 2 specimens in ZMB mentioned in original publication and by Fischer, 1880, Arch. Naturgesch., 46: 216—DRF); ZMB 9524 designated lectotype by Taylor, 1969, Univ. Kansas Sci. Bull., 48: 282. Type locality: "Caceres [= Cáceres], Provinz Antioquia (Neu Granada)", Colombia.

Distribution

Valleys of the Magdalena and Cauca rivers as well as in Chocó, northern Colombia; expected in adjacent Panama.
