Comment

In the Tylototriton asperrimus group according to the original publication. Yuan, Jiang, Lü, Yang, Nguyen, Nguyen, Jin, and Che, 2011, Zool. Res., Kunming, 32: 57–58, suggested that Tylototriton notialis is a junior synonym of Tylototrion asperrimus, but this conclusion was based on fewer data than the original recognition of the species. Raffaëlli, 2013, Urodeles du Monde, 2nd ed.: 186–187 provided a brief account, photograph, and map and documented the presence of this species in Vietnam, although only in provincial terms. Nishikawa, Matsui, and Nguyen, 2013, Curr. Herpetol., Kyoto, 32: 34–49, provided records from Nghe An Province, Vietnam (see below). Sparreboom, 2014, Salamanders Old World: 365–366, reviewed the biology, characteristics, distribution, reproduction, and conservation of the species. See brief account by Phimmachak, Aowphol, and Stuart, 2015, Zootaxa, 4006: 296–297. Bernardes, Le, Nguyen, Pham, Pham, Nguyen, Rödder, Bonkowski, and Ziegler, 2020, ZooKeys, 935: 121–164, provided a range map. Nishikawa, Sanamxay, Kurita, Hibino, Jono, and Nguyen, 2020, Acad. J. Biol., 42: 135–137, provided an upper elevation record. In the Tylototriton (Yaotritonasperrimus species group of Poyarkov, Nguyen, and Arkhipov, 2021, Taprobanica, 10: 4–22, who discussed phylogenetics and reassigned the Vietnam record to a new species, Tylototriton thaiorum. Poyarkov, Nguyen, Popov, Geissler, Pawangkhanant, Neang, Suwannapoom, and Orlov, 2021, Russ. J. Herpetol., 28 (3A): 67, continued the inclusion of Vietnam within the range. In the Tylototriton asperrimus group of Lyu, Wang, Zeng, Zhou, Qi, Wan, Li, and Wang, 2021, Vert. Zool., Senckenberg, 71: 697–710, who discussed phylogenetics. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 288, provided an account, summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map).
