Comment

Canseco-Márquez, 2006, Herpetol. Rev., 37: 356-357, provided a range extension and discussion of the range. Wake, Rovito, Maisano, and Hanken, 2012, Zootaxa, 3579: 67-70, reported on osteology and taxonomy, and also stated "in the subsequent 25 years, despite many futile attempts, only one additional specimen of this species has been discovered", suggesting that the earlier range extensions published by Canseco-Márquez, 2006, Herpetol. Rev., 37: 356-357, identifications confirmed by D.B. Wake and G. Parra-Olea, apply to different, likely unnamed species. See map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 569. Raffaëlli, 2013, Urodeles du Monde, 2nd ed.: 301, provided a brief account, photograph, and map. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 820, provided an account summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map).
