Oedipina (Oedipina) koehleri Sunyer, Townsend, Wake, Travers, Gonzalez, Obando, and Quintana, 2011, Breviora, 526: 5. Holotype: UF 156456, by original designation. Type locality: "Parque Nacional Cerro Saslaya (along the trail from Campamento 'Las Guardiolas' to 'El Revenido'), 13° 42.8′ N, 85° 01.9′ W, 724 m above sea level (a.s.l.), Region Autónoma Atlántico Norte, Nicaragua".

Three isolated highland areas in north-central Nicaragua, 600 to 945 m elevation.

Confused with Oedipina pseudouniformis prior to its discovery according to the original publication. Sunyer, Martínez-Fonseca, Salazar-Saavedra, Galindo-Uribe, and Obando, 2014, Mesoam. Herpetol., 1: 164, provided a record for the department of Jinotega, Nicaragua. Raffaëlli, 2013, Urodeles du Monde, 2nd ed.: 381, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 867–868, provided an account summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map).
